Hong Kong MTR technician wins WorldSkills silver medal

A Hong Kong train repair technician has pledged to use insights from an international vocational skills competition at his job with MTR after winning a silver medal in Shanghai, according to SCMP Economy.

Gordon Tang Kwong-tai, 22, said the competition involved three days of intense examination focused on fixing railway system faults, and he credited the event with broadening his horizons by challenging peers from around the world.

Tang described the competition as niche but said he hopes to contribute in the field and apply knowledge learned at the contest to his work at MTR.

He was part of a 41-member Hong Kong team that won 15 medals, which the outlet said was the city’s largest delegation to date and a record number of accolades at the WorldSkills tournament.
