India unlikely to fully replace Russian crude despite US tariff threat
Analysts say India is unlikely to swap out all its Russian crude imports even as the US authorized expanded sanctions tied to Russia and Iran in a 2026 law.
OilPrice reports that analysts expect India will be unable, and likely unwilling, to replace all the Russian crude it imports despite a threat of 100% tariffs on Indian products in the United States.
The story says the backdrop is a US law signed earlier in 2026, the “Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026,” which authorizes and expands sanctions, tariffs, and prohibitions related to Russia and Iran.
OilPrice adds that while the US tariff threat is aimed at products, analysts view India as facing constraints in fully rerouting its crude supply away from Russian barrels.
