Lush expands six months of paid parental leave for North America staff

The policy covers employees on its North American payroll who work at least 30 hours per week and complete at least one year of service.

Lush Cosmetics expanded paid parental leave in North America, adding six months at full pay for every new parent effective July 1, with coverage extended beyond corporate and management roles. Insurance Business reports the benefit now includes retail, manufacturing, and administrative employees, provided they work at least 30 hours a week and have completed a year of service.

The outlet highlights that Lush previously offered parental leave that covered corporate and retail management but excluded frontline store, manufacturing, and administrative employees. It says the new policy removes that distinction for frontline hourly workers.

Insurance Business ties the staffing gap to U.S. labor data, citing the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics American Time Use Survey for 2024 to 2025. It notes service occupations had a paid leave access rate of 44.9%, sales and related roles had 61.4%, and management, business, and financial operations workers had 89.5%.

The article also says paid parental leave in US retail typically does not extend much beyond a few weeks and almost never reaches frontline hourly staff. It adds that previously excluded hourly frontline workers have largely relied on the Family and Medical Leave Act, or FMLA, for time off rather than paid leave.
