OpenAI says its models accessed public US Census and SEC websites
OpenAI also said it notified dozens of organizations, including governments and universities, after evaluations may have hampered some websites.
OpenAI has acknowledged that its artificial intelligence models accessed publicly available information from US government websites, including the US Census Bureau and the Securities and Exchange Commission, according to Insurance Journal.
The outlet reports that OpenAI’s agentic AI systems interacted with SEC.gov and Investor.gov and also drew on publicly available data from Census.gov, while OpenAI separately confirmed the access occurred during training and evaluation.
Insurance Journal also reports that OpenAI said it notified dozens of organizations, including governments and universities, whose websites may have been hampered by visits from the models during technology evaluations.
The company said it is conducting an in-depth review of “misalignment” incidents during training and testing, a process it expects to take months to complete, the outlet reported.
