Runway Green to build $60 million education campus at Floyd Bennett Field
The National Park Service leased the nonprofit a 7-acre site in Brooklyn, with a first project phase slated to break ground next year for urban farming.
Commercial Observer reports the National Park Service leased a 7-acre space in Brooklyn’s Marine Park neighborhood to Runway Green, a workforce development nonprofit, for a new agricultural and environmental education facility at Floyd Bennett Field.
According to the organization, Runway Green signed a 60-year agreement with the federal government to build the $60 million campus inside Gateway National Recreation Area, which the Park Service oversees.
Commercial Observer adds that the first phase of the project will break ground next year, with 3 acres dedicated to urban farming in partnership with the Campaign Against Hunger.
In a statement, Runway Green founder Geoff Roehm said the lease turns the group’s vision into a public commitment for New York City’s young people, describing an education ecosystem that brings together schools, employers, nonprofits, colleges, and public agencies.
