Insurers shift from AI underwriting speed to faster claims outcomes
A Conning 2025 survey cited at an industry conference found full insurer AI adoption has quadrupled in a year.
Zywave’s Horizon Digital Distribution Conference in New York brought senior brokers, carrier executives, and MGA leaders together to discuss how insurance distribution is being reshaped, with an emphasis on the growing role of artificial intelligence, according to Coverager.
The event highlighted Conning’s 2025 survey results, saying nearly all insurers now have generative AI initiatives underway and that full adoption has quadrupled in a single year.
While Coverager said only 16% of property and casualty insurers use AI to augment underwriting decisions, and just 6% of underwriters cite improved risk selection as the top benefit, the conference pointed to claims where measurable gains are emerging.
Coverager reported claims resolution times are falling from roughly 30 days to 7.5, with per-claim costs down 30.0% to 40.0%, and argued the competitive advantage will go to players who use AI to sharpen underwriting judgment rather than focusing only on faster paperwork.
