Nifty 50 ends September down nearly 6% as selling persists
The index fell for a third straight session, closing after giving up more than 180 points from the day’s high.
India’s Nifty 50 finished the final trading session of September in the red, giving up more than 180 points from the day’s high and closing lower as selling pressure reappeared at higher levels, according to LiveMint Markets citing Reuters.
The benchmark index also logged a third consecutive session of decline. For September as a whole, the Nifty 50 fell nearly 6%, marking the sharpest monthly drop since March 2026 and the steepest September decline since 2016.
In session trading, the index opened lower, then moved higher to an intraday peak of 22,809.35 before the recovery faded. Technical signals showed a higher high and higher low structure versus the prior session, but there was still no clear confirmation of a reversal, with weakness reflected in a small red candle and a long upper shadow.
