The Hartford names Mo Tooker as next CEO in 2027 transition
The insurer reported $1.3 billion in Q2 2026 net income and a 91.4% combined ratio, alongside a new $4.2 billion share repurchase authorization.
The Hartford has named company president A. Morris “Mo” Tooker as its next chief executive, with the leadership change set to begin March 1, 2027. Christopher Swift will step aside as CEO at that time and move into the role of executive chair of the board, while Tooker will join The Hartford’s board on Oct. 1, 2026.
Insurance Business reports the succession plan comes as the Connecticut-based insurer continues reshaping its portfolio and sharpening focus on core insurance businesses, including property and casualty and employee benefits.
The Hartford said it posted $1.3 billion in net income available to common shareholders for the second quarter of 2026, up 31% year over year, with property and casualty written premiums increasing 3%. Business Insurance premiums rose 5%, and the property and casualty segment delivered a 91.4% combined ratio, according to Insurance Business.
The company also authorized a new $4.2 billion share repurchase program, and Trevor Fetter, the lead independent director, said the plan is designed to support a seamless transition, business momentum, and operational strength.
