Tilray plans new beers and upgrades after buying BrewDog
Tilray paid £33m for BrewDog in March and is investing more than £50m to improve beer production lines and BrewDog’s pubs and working conditions.
Tilray, the US cannabis and drinks firm, is planning the launch of new beers and is investing in BrewDog’s brewery in Aberdeenshire to improve existing production lines, according to the Guardian Business. The company said the moves are part of a broader effort to improve beers and pubs, along with working conditions.
Tilray took over BrewDog in March after buying the business for £33m, after BrewDog collapsed into administration following five years of losses and controversies tied to the treatment of workers under founder James Watt, the outlet reported. Some staff had accused Watt in 2021 of fostering a toxic work culture, and he apologized for some conduct before leaving the company in 2024.
The Guardian Business also reported that BrewDog’s new owner, Tilray, urged drinkers to give the brand a second chance. Tilray’s chief executive, Irwin Simon, said the company is listening to BrewDog’s customers and staff as it executes the investment plan.
