US core PCE held steady at 3% in August, below forecasts
The Bureau of Economic Analysis also reported monthly increases of 0.3% for headline PCE and 0.2% for core PCE, and the dollar index fell 0.3% to 101.05 after the release.
The US Bureau of Economic Analysis reported Wednesday that annual core inflation, measured by the core Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) Price Index excluding volatile food and energy, stayed unchanged at 3.0% in August.
FXStreet said the core PCE result came in below expectations of 3.3%, and it followed a downward revision to July’s core reading to 3.0% from 3.3%.
On a monthly basis, the PCE Price Index rose 0.3% and the core PCE Price Index increased 0.2%.
FXStreet added that the US dollar faced renewed selling pressure immediately after the data, with the US Dollar Index down 0.3% on the day at 101.05.
