USD/JPY slips to around 156.4 as half-year-end flows weigh
The dollar also came under pressure after Fed comments, with Asian trading seeing the yen firmer and the Nikkei up 1.0%.
Forexlive reported that USD/JPY fell to around 156.4 during Asian trading on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, as half-year-end flows and Fed comments weighed on the dollar.
The same market update said Japan’s August factory output dropped 1.7% year over year, while China’s official manufacturing PMI returned to growth, rising to 50.1, and non-manufacturing PMI improved to 50.2.
Forexlive also pointed to China’s manufacturing PMI rising to 52.1, above forecast, and services PMI at 51.6 beating expectations, as the Nikkei gained 1.0% and gold edged higher.
In related data, the update cited Australia’s August CPI at 4.0% year over year, with fuel driving the rise, and noted the PBOC set the USD/CNY midpoint at 6.7351.
