Compass CEO warns MLSs against denying his demands by Oct. 6

The threat comes amid a rising wave of MLS-related legal pressure, including a Zillow antitrust suit and a DOJ and FTC review of broker cooperation guidelines.

HousingWire reports that Compass CEO Robert Reffkin has threatened to sue any MLS that does not comply with his demands by Oct. 6, setting a near-term deadline for MLS leaders.

The warning is playing out as MLS-related legal activity expands, with HousingWire pointing to an antitrust lawsuit filed by Zillow against Council of MLSs member Midwest Real Estate Data, known as MRED, and Compass International Holdings.

HousingWire also notes that the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission are reexamining guidelines for broker cooperation and competition.

In response to that backdrop, HousingWire says MLS legal experts speaking at CMLS Open House urged members to plan scenarios around cooperation, participation, and data access as lawsuits and demand letters increase.
