Green Acres Milling starts operating a food-grade oat mill in Minnesota
The farmer-owned mill began operating in September 2026 in Albert Lea, Minnesota, and was built around oats grown for about a decade as a cover crop for soil and water retention.
Green Acres Milling, a food-grade oat milling plant in Albert Lea, Minnesota, started operating in September 2026, according to World Grain.
The mill is farmer-owned, and its operators described the launch as the culmination of about 20 years of related projects.
The operators, Landon and Anne Plagge, farm a 4,000-acre operation near Latimer, Iowa, and began growing oats around 10 years ago as a cover crop to improve soil health and water holding capacity in their corn and soybean fields.
World Grain reports the Plagges launched the mill after observing growing consumer interest in health-focused foods, including demand for gluten-free and allergen-free products and for customers to know where their food comes from.
