Indonesia appoints new police chief as reforms weigh on force image
Suyudi Ario Seto was sworn in hours after his parliamentary hearing, as President Prabowo Subianto also reshuffled cabinet posts including Listyo Sigit Prabowo’s move to head the Executive Office of the President.
Indonesia has appointed Suyudi Ario Seto as its new police chief, replacing Listyo Sigit Prabowo on Thursday, as the government tries to address public demands for greater accountability and police independence, South China Morning Post reported.
The outlet said the new chief faces pressure to repair the force’s image after recent scandals, while policymakers consider reform recommendations that include changes to police work culture and limits on officers holding public positions outside the force.
SCMP also reported that President Prabowo Subianto reshuffled his cabinet at the same time, with Listyo taking over the Executive Office of the President, known as KSP.
According to the report, Parliament approved Suyudi’s appointment and he was sworn in within hours of his parliamentary hearing.
