Pentagon weighs adding third aircraft carrier and 10,000 troops
The deployment plan comes as the US signals further strike options toward Iran after the November midterm elections.
An internal US official said the Pentagon may soon send a third aircraft carrier strike group and 10,000 sailors and Marines to the Persian Gulf, according to the Wall Street Journal as cited by FXStreet.
FXStreet also tied the potential deployment to US President Donald Trump’s comment that increased military strikes against Iran were possible after the November midterm elections.
Separately, FXStreet reported that Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, suggested in private talks that Iran is willing to restore nuclear inspectors’ access to bombed facilities in exchange for sanctions relief, citing Bloomberg.
At the time of writing, FXStreet said West Texas Intermediate crude was up 0.09% on the day at $92.00.
