September nonfarm payrolls rose by 29,000 as unemployment reached 4.2%

The unemployment rate edged up to 4.2%, while payroll gains missed a Dow Jones forecast of 84,000 jobs.

ConnectCRE said the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported September nonfarm payrolls increased by 29,000 and the unemployment rate ticked up to 4.2%.

The outlet noted that economists surveyed by Dow Jones had expected 84,000 new jobs and a 4.1% unemployment rate.

ConnectCRE also reported the government revised downward prior months, cutting August job gains to 133,000 and revising July to reflect a loss of 10,000 jobs.

In total, the revisions and updates meant July and August combined showed 60,000 fewer jobs than previously reported, according to the BLS data discussed by ConnectCRE.
