UK diesel price tops £2 a litre as oil costs rise

The RAC says the average diesel price hit 200.01p per litre, with disruption tied to regional war-related pressures and renewed tensions affecting supply and transport.

UK diesel prices have crossed the £2 per litre mark for the first time, with average pump prices reaching 200.01p, according to the RAC motoring body as summarized by BBC Business.

The outlet links the jump to fallout from the US and Israel conflict with Iran, saying production and transportation disruptions have squeezed oil supply across the region and pushed up fuel costs from crude.

BBC Business also notes diesel and petrol prices can fall or rise based on demand and refining capacity, but remain closely tied to wholesale crude prices.

Analysts cited by BBC Business say each $10 increase in oil price typically adds about 7p per litre at the pump, while the outlet adds that US President Donald Trump has been mulling a ban on US diesel producers selling overseas, a move that could raise UK prices further.
