USTR says no timeline set for implementing US-China Board of Trade

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said tariff reductions under the mechanism require a legal process before they can be implemented.

United States Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said there is currently no timeline for implementing the US-China Board of Trade, an outcome tied to Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Washington last week, according to SCMP Economy.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Group of 20 Trade Ministers’ meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Greer said tariff reductions under the Board of Trade are a policy outcome, but that recommendations still must move through a legal process before implementation.

Greer made the comments as the two sides continue working toward a framework intended to produce tariff reductions through the Board of Trade mechanism.
