China expands law-enforcement cooperation with East Africa on cyber fraud

China hosted East African security officials in Lianyungang on Sept. 10 and launched an alliance with 46 founding countries, including Kenya.

China is deepening law-enforcement cooperation with parts of Africa as cross-border cyber fraud grows, drawing African governments and Chinese security agencies into closer coordination, according to SCMP Economy.

SCMP Economy reports that China hosted East African security ministers and police chiefs in Lianyungang, Jiangsu province, on Sept. 10 for talks covering terrorism, kidnapping, online fraud, and other cross-border threats.

On the same day, China launched the International Alliance Combating Telecoms and Cyber Fraud, with 46 founding countries listed, including Kenya, as the effort targets telecom-linked cyber and related wrongdoing.
