UAE warns it could cancel UK investments after Manchester City guilty verdict

The Premier League brought 115 charges against City for breaches of financial rules from 2009 to 2018, with 114 upheld by an independent commission.

The United Arab Emirates has reportedly warned the UK government that it could cancel major UK investments after an independent commission found Manchester City guilty.

According to the Guardian Business, Emirati officials linked the potential investment changes to what they called the Premier League’s actions and said this would influence the bilateral state relationship.

The report adds that other UK media described the UAE as threatening to pull funding tied to a multibillion-pound investment in a tech-focused Oxbridge-style hub.

In the same case, the Premier League brought 115 charges against City for breaches of financial rules between 2009 and 2018, and 114 were upheld by the independent commission.
