United List wins Latvia parliamentary election with wide margin
With 72 percent of ballots counted, the pro-Ukraine United List led at 36.5 percent, ahead of Latvia First at 13.0 percent.
Latvia’s centrist, pro-Ukraine United List party won Saturday’s parliamentary election with an unexpectedly wide margin, according to partial results.
With 72 percent of ballots counted, United List stood at 36.5 percent, followed by the populist, Maga-style Latvia First at 13.0 percent, Reuters data showed.
The election played out amid warnings about potential Russian aggression, as Baltic countries have warned for months that Russia is mounting sabotage, cyber and other hybrid attacks across Europe to erode support for Ukraine and sow fear.
Russia has rejected those accusations as baseless, saying they are driven by anti-Russian hysteria, Reuters reported, while Western officials have dismissed concerns that Moscow is capable of launching a direct assault on Nato.
