Chaucer launches US cargo insurance to cover strategic theft

The program covers US land transit risks across single-trip transit, annual contingent cargo, and standalone strategic theft, with technology-led mitigations such as driver verification and shipment tracking.

Global specialty reinsurance and insurance group Chaucer has partnered with Indemni to launch a specialist US cargo insurance proposition targeting strategic theft, according to Reinsurance News.

The offering provides coverage for US land transit risks across single-trip transit, annual contingent cargo, and standalone strategic theft, and it pairs specialized coverage with technology-focused risk mitigations.

Reinsurance News says the program integrates controls including driver verification, shipment tracking, and enhanced visibility across the logistics chain.

Chaucer leads the program, with Indemni underwriting on its behalf alongside additional capacity from supporting Lloyd’s syndicates, and Chaucer deputy underwriter Winnie Hartigan said strategic theft requires a different underwriting approach as shipment controls can change risk quality.
