Hong Kong construction trainees win three WorldSkills honours in Shanghai
The nine-member Construction Industry Council squad produced what it calls its strongest finish, including Hong Kong’s first WorldSkills honour in concrete construction work.
Nine young construction competitors from Hong Kong’s Construction Industry Council returned from WorldSkills Shanghai with three Medallions for Excellence, the strongest result the council said it has recorded at the competition, according to SCMP Economy.
The honours went to Law Chak-sum in painting and decorating, Tse Yu-lok in welding, and the concrete construction work team of Huang To-kong and Wan Tsz-ho. SCMP Economy reports that the concrete award marked Hong Kong’s first WorldSkills honour in that category, while welding delivered a third successive Medallion for Excellence for the CIC.
SCMP Economy also details how the four-day concrete competition saw a dramatic turnaround. Huang and Wan said they were among the fastest competitors early, but one became unwell on the second day, leading them to adjust tactics, and their concrete pour failed on the third afternoon before they went on to win.
