Malaysia weighs permanent F1 return after Bahrain GP race draws 260,000

The Bahrain Grand Prix’s move away from the Persian Gulf came after security concerns linked to the US–Israel war on Iran.

Malaysia is once again debating a permanent Formula One return after a large turnout for the Bahrain Grand Prix at Sepang International Circuit in Selangor.

According to SCMP Economy, more than 260,000 people flocked to the circuit for the race, the first F1 event there since 2017.

The Bahrain Grand Prix was originally planned for April, but it was postponed and relocated away from the Persian Gulf island nation due to security concerns arising from the US–Israel war on Iran.

SCMP Economy also noted that the traffic chaos around the event left thousands of fans stranded for hours, even as Malaysia rekindled interest in bringing the race back for good.
