PLA Z-10 crews train to fly from ships for maritime missions
The Z-10, in service since late 2010, has conducted documented shipboard trials since 2014 and practiced shipboard landing, refueling and rearming in 2020.
The People’s Liberation Army’s main attack helicopter, the Z-10, is taking on a larger maritime role as crews train to operate from ships, a shift that could increase Beijing’s firepower in a Taiwan amphibious scenario, according to SCMP Economy.
The article says the Z-10 is built to hunt tanks and support ground troops, and it entered service with the PLA Army in late 2010.
SCMP Economy reports that the helicopter began documented shipboard trials in 2014, when Chinese navy imagery showed a Z-10 landing on the Baxianshan Type 072A tank landing ship.
The Z-10’s maritime role has expanded over time, with SCMP Economy noting that in 2020 army helicopters practised landing, refueling and rearming on a civilian semi-submersible.
