Aevex Aerospace to produce Vandal and Onyx drones in Taiwan

The California defense technology firm is partnering with Coretronic Intelligent Robotics Corporation to build the Vandal and Onyx drones locally, using combat testing from Ukraine as part of the development process.

Aevex Aerospace, a California-based defense technology company, is working with Taiwan’s Coretronic Intelligent Robotics Corporation (CIRC) to produce its Vandal and Onyx drones locally, according to SCMP Economy.

The drones are described as battle tested under combat conditions in Ukraine, where intensive electronic warfare helped shape their development, Aevex executives said.

Taiwan is aiming to expand an unmanned “drone shield” as part of its broader efforts to bolster capabilities against the People’s Liberation Army.

SCMP Economy reports that Vandal, the smaller model, is designed for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions, as well as electronic warfare and precision strikes.
