Arbol appoints Dr Clement Atzberger as Chief Scientist for Innovation Unit
Arbol said the Innovation Unit will focus first on agriculture, building advanced modelling to support weather and yield protection products.
Arbol, an AI-native insurer, launched a new Innovation Unit and appointed Dr. Clement Atzberger as Chief Scientist, tasking the unit with developing modelling, data, and underwriting research tied to Arbol’s specialty risk products.
The company said its goal is to connect its catastrophe models, the data pipelines used to keep model accuracy up to date, and underwriting research that links model outputs to pricing and contract terms, expanding the range of risks the reinsurer writes.
Arbol said it builds and develops catastrophe models for 14 perils in-house, and Dr. Atzberger will initially focus on agriculture to drive advanced modelling for weather and yield protection products that it said fill gaps left by standard insurance policies.
The announcement highlighted that Atzberger is a remote sensing scientist with more than three decades of experience leading research initiatives, including work on TESSERA, a data model that converts radar and optical satellite time series into AI-ready representations of land surface status.
