Eurozone retail sales slow in August as July fell 0.6%

The softer August reading left no major immediate reaction in the euro, with EUR/USD up 0.17% to near 1.12347 after the release.

Eurozone retail sales rose 0.1% month on month in August, falling short of the 0.2% forecast, according to FXStreet. The data release also showed July retail sales declined 0.6%.

On an annualized basis, retail sales growth slowed to 0.8% in August versus a 1.0% estimate, after the prior reading was revised down to 0.4%.

FXStreet said there was no major action in the euro after the release, with EUR/USD up 0.17% to near 1.12347 as of writing. The report cited Eurostat’s monthly retail sales volume as a widely followed indicator of consumer spending.
