Hong Kong Generation Y unhappiest as happiness index stays below pass level
A poll of 1,039 adults found residents aged 30 to 45 scored 5.87 out of 10, while 40% or more reported moderate to severe depressive symptoms.
Hong Kong residents aged 30 to 45 were identified as the city’s least happy age group, with economic and housing conditions cited as major drivers, according to a poll covered by SCMP Economy.
The survey, run by HK.WeCare under the non-profit Wofoo Social Enterprises, put the Hong Kong Happiness Index for Generation Y at 5.87 out of 10, and the score stayed below the passing level for a fourth consecutive year even as the overall index trended upward since 2024.
More than 40% of respondents reported moderate to severe depressive symptoms, and they also gave only moderate ratings for community belonging and trust, scoring 3.13 and 2.81 out of five, respectively.
The outlet said both community belonging and trust were found to be directly linked to happiness.
