Hong Kong to study Tai Po fire inquiry panel’s final report

Officials have set up a dedicated task force to investigate alleged failings tied to the Wang Fuk Court blaze, with the panel’s final report due later this month.

Hong Kong authorities said they have made preparations to implement reforms and pursue accountability ahead of the Tai Po fire inquiry panel’s final report, which is due later this month, according to the SCMP Economy.

Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu said the government would study and follow up on recommendations from the judge-led independent committee investigating the deadly fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po last November, adding that specific details would be announced after he receives the report.

The report said the government has established a dedicated task force under the Public Service Commission, led by former commissioner for sports George Tsoi Kin-pan and former deputy secretary for security Benjamin Mok Kwan-yu, to look into alleged official failings related to the blaze.
