Luckin promotions in Singapore cut a local cafe’s sales by 15%
The cafe owner said sales later recovered after Luckin’s early promotions ended and regular customers returned.
Singapore local cafe Folk Yard owner Chew Yit Shan said the arrival of Chinese coffee chain Luckin Coffee next door initially hurt business.
According to SCMP Economy, Luckin launched with an aggressive S$1 (78 US cents) per cup deal served in two minutes, and Chew reported that his cafe’s sales fell 15% in the first few months after it opened.
SCMP Economy reported that once the initial hype faded and promotions stopped, regular patrons returned and coffee sales bounced back.
Chew said customers needed to be reassured that the cafe offers a different experience, including barista familiarity and neighborhood interaction that goes beyond the product itself.
