Ikea will test an online furniture buyback in Spain and Portugal

The retailer plans to launch the service in the UK if the Spain and Portugal pilot, running before the end of December, proves successful.

Ikea is piloting an online buyback service for unwanted secondhand furniture in Spain and Portugal, offering vouchers in exchange for items.

The company said the test is scheduled to run before the end of December, with a UK rollout planned only if the pilot proves successful.

Ikea also pointed to forecasts that pre-owned goods could take 16% of the UK homewares market by next year.

The move comes as the retailer expands its secondhand efforts, including an online marketplace for pre-loved items that launches in the UK this week as it competes with platforms such as Vinted and eBay.
