Abby Choi’s mother tells court ex-father-in-law clung to family wealth

She said her daughter gave Kwong Kau a HK$20,000 monthly allowance and paid over HK$200,000 in medical expenses.

Abby Choi Tin-fung’s mother, Cheung Yin-fa, told Hong Kong’s High Court that the socialite’s former father-in-law, Kwong Kau, clung to her family’s fortune, rejecting arguments that he could afford luxury goods through post-retirement business earnings, according to SCMP Economy.

Cheung said her daughter provided Kwong with a monthly allowance of HK$20,000 and covered more than HK$200,000 in medical expenses while he was seriously ill.

During testimony on the fourth day of her evidence, Cheung said it was “definitely impossible” for Kwong to have funded luxury purchases, adding that he could not even afford meals.

She also disputed defence counsel’s suggestion that Kwong spent HK$6 million to HK$7 million on a Rolls-Royce, saying the former police sergeant could not have done so.
