Alliant buys New Hampshire broker Melcher & Prescott

The acquisition adds full-service commercial and personal lines, and Melcher & Prescott was founded in 1862.

Alliant has acquired Melcher & Prescott, a Laconia, New Hampshire-based independent agency founded in 1862, the company said. The broker provides commercial insurance, employee benefits, personal lines, and life and health coverage to clients across New England.

After the deal closes, Melcher & Prescott will transition to operate as Alliant Insurance Services. No financial terms were disclosed.

The transaction is part of a broader wave of independent agency acquisitions recorded so far in 2026, with Alliant citing the need for scale, market access, and succession planning that can be harder to address from a purely regional base.

Insurance Business reports that Alliant has made several Northeast acquisitions in recent years, and the Melcher & Prescott deal is expected to expand its full-service commercial and personal lines presence alongside the broker’s specialty operations.
