China nominates Song Li to run for WHO director general
China has nominated health official Song Li to seek the role of director general of the World Health Organization, the Chinese foreign ministry confirmed on Thursday, according to SCMP Economy.
If elected, Song Li would be the first person from mainland China to lead the UN health agency, SCMP Economy reported.
The nomination follows China’s previous support for Margaret Chan, the Hong Kong born doctor who served as WHO director general from 2007 to 2017, SCMP Economy said.
