Experian warns AI synthetic content will raise demand for verification
In its 2027 Data Breach Industry Forecast, the firm says AI use on both offense and defense is blurring real from synthetic, and it expects verification to be among the fastest-growing investment areas in cybersecurity.
Experian says AI’s ability to generate realistic synthetic content will make trust and identity verification more central to cybersecurity, echoing a “trust no one, verify everyone” approach in its newly released 2027 Data Breach Industry Forecast.
The company links the shift to AI being used to improve social engineering attacks by cybercriminals, while businesses increasingly deploy AI in customer service, operations, and other business processes, which it says makes it harder to distinguish authentic from synthetic interactions.
In the report, Experian argues that the ability to validate the legitimacy of identities, interactions, and transactions could become a valuable part of cybersecurity.
Experian also said verification is expected to emerge as one of the fastest-growing areas for investment as legitimate and malicious uses of AI continue to increase.
