Goodman withdraws 90 MW data centre plan in Sydney amid opposition
The developer cited concerns raised by residents, including potential impacts on electricity and water supplies, noise, and other issues.
Australia’s push to build infrastructure for artificial intelligence is colliding with growing local opposition to data centre development, with Goodman Group withdrawing a proposed project in Sydney’s Lane Cove, according to SCMP Economy.
Goodman pulled its application for a 90-megawatt data centre after months of resident complaints about possible impacts on electricity and water supplies, noise pollution, and other concerns, the outlet said.
In a press statement, the company said it considered changes in the policy and regulatory environment as well as feedback from residents before deciding to withdraw the application, SCMP Economy reported.
The outlet added that it is not the first time this year a data centre developer has halted a proposed project in Australia.
