Russia aide Nikolai Patrushev meets Wang Yi in China

The visit is being watched for signals of preparation for a possible trilateral US-Russia-China summit at next month’s APEC leaders’ meeting.

A senior aide to Russia’s president arrived in China, with the trip closely watched for signs of preparation for a potential trilateral summit involving the United States at next month’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation leaders’ meeting, according to SCMP Economy.

Nikolai Patrushev, who also chairs Russia’s Maritime Board, was scheduled to hold talks with China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the Chinese foreign ministry said, after the two countries’ ministries announced the visit this week.

Patrushev is leading a delegation that includes representatives from government agencies, major logistics firms, shipbuilders, and scientific and educational institutions, and he is set to discuss Russian-Chinese cooperation in the maritime sector.

The Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman said the visit is Patrushev’s first to China as chairman of the Maritime Board, and that Wang and other department chiefs would meet with him to exchange views on bilateral relations and maritime cooperation.
