Selective Insurance names Vaib Kalia as permanent chief investment officer
Kalia has served as interim CIO since June, and his investment income role supports pricing and capital strength for the carrier’s independent-agent business.
Selective Insurance Group appointed Vaib Kalia as executive vice president and chief investment officer, effective immediately. The insurer said Kalia had been interim CIO since June and is an internal fixed income specialist, having joined the company in 2014.
According to Insurance Business, Selective noted Kalia’s prior roles at the company, including senior vice president, senior portfolio manager, and head of fixed income, and it highlighted his earlier experience at BlackRock and HSBC. Chairman, president and CEO John Marchioni said Kalia led the investment function during the interim period with discipline and clear judgment.
Insurance Business also linked the CIO appointment to the role investment management plays for carriers that sell through independent agents. It said investment income supports pricing and capital strength, and making the experienced internal fixed income leader permanent is aimed at continuity in how the portfolio is managed.
In addition, Insurance Business said Ameritas promoted Stephanie Stearley to senior vice president, group, effective September 20. She had been vice president, policy services, group, and previously joined Ameritas in 1992 before a stint at Guardian Life.
