Higginbotham expands into transportation insurance with a full division

The new Transportation Division is staffed by 31 employees with 372 years of transportation insurance experience, including a claims and loss prevention model.

Higginbotham is upgrading its transportation coverage operation into a full Transportation Division as the industry adjusts to a Supreme Court ruling affecting how freight brokers can face negligent hiring lawsuits, Insurance Business reports.

The division launches with 31 staff members totaling 372 years of transportation insurance experience. The firm said the added division status gives the team more scope to invest in transportation-specific staff, services, and industry initiatives, including an expanded version of its Day Two Services claims and loss prevention model staffed by people with transportation backgrounds.

Higginbotham said the practice originated at Memphis-based Lipscomb & Pitts, which partnered with Higginbotham in 2020. Brent Allred, a managing partner based in Chattanooga, took over in March 2021, and the company said 14 staff joined in his first 10 months, more than doubling the team as it expanded across the Southeast and Midwest.

Higginbotham chairman and CEO Rusty Reid said transportation insurance is highly specialized, with different differences across claims, legal environments, insurance markets, and operating risks as the legal backdrop continues to shift this year.
