Tropical Storm Isaias forecast to intensify into Category 2 hurricane

The storm is forecast to strengthen later this week, putting critical Gulf energy assets including offshore rigs and major refineries in the hurricane cone.

Tropical Storm Isaias is forecast to strengthen into a Category 2 hurricane, with the northern U.S. Gulf Coast in its path later this week, according to the National Hurricane Center.

OilPrice reports the hurricane cone of uncertainty includes critical energy infrastructure, such as offshore oil rigs and major refineries.

The outlet adds that Isaias was about 285 miles west of Progreso, Mexico, with maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour, based on the NHC bulletin.

OilPrice notes that the storm’s projected intensity and track raise the risk of disruption for energy assets located along the northern Gulf Coast.
