Indian stocks slide as crude jumps and foreign outflows persist
The Nifty 50 fell 1.6% to 22,231.8, while the Sensex dropped 1.4% to 71,593.2 on the day’s broad sell-off.
LiveMint Markets said Indian equities fell sharply on 8 October 2026 as surging crude prices and continued foreign investor outflows weighed on sentiment. The Nifty 50 closed at 22,231.80, down 371 points, or 1.6%, while the Sensex fell 1,045 points, or 1.4%, to 71,593.24, its weakest close in months.
The outlet reported that the sell-off was broad-based, with metals, realty, oil and gas, and consumer stocks leading declines, while IT counters showed relative resilience, with Infosys and Tech Mahindra holding modest gains.
It added that midcap and small-cap indices slipped more than 2%, reflecting weak market breadth. Crude prices surged past $104 per barrel, while the rupee remained under pressure as yield differentials narrowed and US Treasury yields hovered near 5.3%.
