Guardian Life tech chief says providers are using AI for benefits checks
The insurer’s chief digital and technology officer said the AI can verify benefits for whole patient lists in a single call, reflecting how agentic AI is moving from pilots into live use.
The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America says healthcare providers have started using artificial intelligence to verify patients’ benefits, according to comments from the insurer’s chief digital and technology officer.
Steve Rullo, speaking at InsureTech Connect in Las Vegas, said the AI is handling benefit verification at scale by working through whole lists of patients in one call, rather than checking individuals one at a time.
He described this as an early sign of what agentic AI could do in insurance, referring to systems that can act and transact on a user’s behalf with limited human direction.
Rullo’s remarks came as agentic AI tools move from pilots into live work across the sector, with other executives also arguing the technology could disrupt workplace benefits for small businesses.
