Hong Kong civil service chief warns of disciplinary action after Tai Po fire probe
Hong Kong’s civil service secretary said disciplinary steps could follow if an investigation report identifies officials and evidence of inadequate administrative responsibilities.
Hong Kong’s civil service chief, Ingrid Yeung Ho Poi-yan, said senior public servants deemed accountable for last year’s deadly Tai Po fire could face disciplinary action if a government-appointed panel names individuals in an investigation report due this month, according to SCMP Economy.
Yeung said a support unit is being set up to assist the Public Service Commission if inquiries into officials’ administrative responsibilities later lead to formal investigations.
She added that if the report clearly pinpoints an individual official and describes what was done inadequately, or establishes prima facie evidence, she would not rule out launching disciplinary action directly, according to SCMP Economy.
