Vietnam boosts soybean imports to expand crushing capacity

Vietnam raised soybean imports to 3.8 million tonnes in the 2025-26 marketing year, up from 2.6 million tonnes in 2024-25.

Vietnam is increasing soybean imports as it expands domestic oilseed crushing capacity, according to a report from the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) of the US Department of Agriculture.

World Grain reports that the FAS set Vietnam’s 2025-26 marketing year soybean imports at a record 3.8 million tonnes, compared with 2.6 million tonnes in 2024-25, and forecasts imports to rise to 4 million tonnes in 2026-27.

The agency also revised Vietnam’s soybean crush volume higher to a record 3 million tonnes in 2025-26 and projected an increase to 3.2 million tonnes in the current marketing year, citing additional crushing capacity at facilities in both southern and northern Vietnam.

The FAS said soybean crushing is supported by demand for soybean meal used in animal and aquaculture feed, and demand for soybean oil for export and domestic consumption.
