Bitcoin developer says custodial Lightning services drive most payments

Paul Sztorc also criticized custodial Lightning promotion, arguing that more than 80% of payments use such services, while everyday usability remains unclear.

Cointelegraph reports that Bitcoin developer Paul Sztorc said Bitcoin users are “lying to themselves” about how well the Lightning Network works.

Sztorc argued that custodial Lightning services handle more than 80% of payments, and he criticized their marketing, calling it a campaign of fraud.

The article notes that while some developers say Lightning usability has improved, there are still open questions about whether it has reached everyday adoption.

It also adds that Lightning payments are private by design, making it difficult to verify the custodial share with full transparency.
