Campaign ads increasingly target data centers in nearly 40 US states

AdImpact data shared with Bisnow shows $86.5M spent on ads mentioning data centers between July and last week, with the framing overwhelmingly negative.

Data centers, once a niche commercial real estate segment, have become a recurring theme in US campaign advertising, with ads appearing across the country from high-profile statewide races to down-ballot contests, according to Bisnow, citing advertising analytics firm AdImpact.

Bisnow/AdImpact data said candidates and outside groups spent $86.5M on ads mentioning data centers between July and last week, and that the ads have been “almost always” in a negative context.

By the start of this month, television viewers in 38 states were seeing political ads focusing at least in part on data centers, the outlet said.

The trend has also been accelerating, with AdImpact reporting that data centers ranked No. 43 out of 73 topics appearing in campaign ads nationwide as of the end of August.
