SageSure makes strategic investment in Pillar Capital Management

The investment follows an expansion of SageSure’s existing debt facility with Ares Management, and TransRe has exited its stake in Pillar.

SageSure has made a strategic investment in Pillar Capital Management, a Bermuda-based manager of collateralized reinsurance and insurance-linked securities (ILS) funds, according to Artemis and Coverager.

Pillar, founded in 2008 and led by CEO and Chief Investment Officer Stephen Velotti, reported around $4.3 billion in assets under management as of June 30, 2026, and its management team is set to continue leading the firm with a substantial ownership stake.

Artemis reports that the transaction also marks the exit of TransRe, a Berkshire Hathaway company, from its stake in Pillar, with SageSure stepping in as a key backer.

Coverager adds that SageSure’s existing debt facility with long-standing capital partner Ares Management was expanded to support the investment.
