Perdue plans phased restart of Cofield grain, oilseed operations Aug. 3
Perdue expects oilseed crush to return to normal first, with grain receiving resuming shortly after, after a Feb. 21 explosion killed one worker and injured two others.
Perdue Farms will restart grain receiving and oilseed crush operations at its Cofield, North Carolina facility on Aug. 3, following dismantling of a feed mill that was irreparably damaged in a Feb. 21 explosion that killed an employee and injured two others.
The company said the feed mill dismantling was completed June 12, and it has since worked on safety preparations to return the site to production. Perdue said safety has remained its top priority and it is cooperating with local, state, and federal authorities as the investigation into the incident’s cause continues.
Perdue said the restart will be carried out in phases, with oilseed crush operations expected to return to normal first, followed shortly by grain receiving. The company said it plans to resume operations responsibly and reliably as startup plans move forward.
Perdue said it is working closely with Cofield associates as the restart approaches and expressed gratitude for the patience and support of local leaders, first responders, and the surrounding community.
