Changzhou plans city-level green token factory for AI power needs

The project is designed to raise token output efficiency by 62.5%, using the same computing resources, and is backed by an agreement among seven parties.

China's Changzhou is building a city-level “green token factory” aimed at supplying tokens for growing artificial intelligence computing demand, as local governments in the country try to secure cleaner power for data-intensive workloads, according to the SCMP Economy.

The municipal government said the facility would run on green energy and connect directly to renewable power plants under a national policy that allows green power to bypass public grids. Changzhou did not provide a completion timeline for the initiative.

The planned system is intended to optimize power usage, with token output expected to increase 62.5% using the same computing power resources, which the city said would improve token supply efficiency and economic viability.

SCMP Economy reported that an agreement signed on Saturday involves seven parties, including Alibaba Cloud and Wangsu Science and Technology, and that the project was announced during the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai.
